Revoltillo de tofú / Scrambled tofu

Hello everyone! In today’s video we are going to make a tofu scramble This is an option for those of you that do not eat egg in breakfast or are trying something a little different. Here we have the tofu, this is a firm one, but you can use extra firm too let get this tofu out of the package and squeeze the water out! Tofu is a soy-based protein it have a cheese-like texture this package have water be careful so, here is the tofu looks like a block of cheese, right!? tofu is like a sponge, it doesn’t have a specific taste that’s why you can flavor it like you want let’s break it into smaller pieces squeeze it to get rid of the excess of water everyone have a different technique to take the water out, but I just do it by hand ok, so when you take out the water with your hand try to break it a little more do this with the quantity you are going to use here is it Let’s turn on the stove I’m going to use: salt, a little bit of cayenne pepper, turmeric, black pepper garlic powder, diced canned red peppers, diced onion and diced cubanelle pepper
(which in PR we known them as “the pepper you use to cook”) this one is not spicy, and a little bit of olive oil. Let’s put a little bit of olive oil in the pan I have the heat on high but let’s turn it to medium ok so now the heat is perfect, let’s throw the veggies in cubanelle pepper in onion, and canned peppers You can use as much as you like and don’t be afraid to use the best instrument you have in the kitchen: your hands! Let’s put some salt here so the veggies start to make some juice let cook for few minutes until the veggies are translucent This recipe is soooo easy! If you like tomato you can put in, but if you are going to prep a lot for a few days, put the tomato in a separate bowl or use it when you are eating the tofu right away because tomato makes the tofu a little bit soggy (and I don’t like that} ok, so the veggies are ready let’s add the tofu and lets put some seasoning into it. First a little bit of garlic powder (as much as you like)… I love garlic! (as you can see) black pepper remember, as much as you like if you like more, then go ahead and put more if you don’t like it, then don’t use it or if you like another spices, try those… Turmeric, is our next. Experts recommend the use of turmeric with black pepper for best absortion in our bodies. Turmeric is going to turn your white-ish tofu into a nice yellow color Now, cayenne pepper, this one is spicy, but I like it so… let’s put some in! and last, salt, I know, I already put some in the veggies, but, like I said before, tofu taste like nothing, put some salt to enhance the flavor. ok, now let’s mix this up, you are going to see the color transformation [mix it well] It’s gonna look like scrambled egg… You can use this recipe in a burrito or green/red enchiladas with salad, or toasted bread mmm yummy! you see! it’s turning yellow! its so yellow, it looks good, and smells good [haha] I want to eat this right now but let’s it sit couple more minutes, remember to check on the heat, we don’t want our tofu to get burnt [rest while you can… I’m gonna eat you!] Ta-da! Here it is! Easy! Now, I have here a flour tortilla Let’s make a burrito with some tofu If you are vegetarian or vegan, or maybe, I don’t know, lactose intolerant, don’t put cheese (or use some kind of substitute), but in my burrito I like to use a little bit of cheese and for that spicy taste, I like to put the salsa we use to dip Tostitos (just a little bit) This salsa have tomatos and jalapenos, know it’s time to roll the trick to seal this tortilla is to put a little bit of water and here is the almost done burrito Here we have our cooked tofu, and our tofu burrito. Hope you like this recipe! If you try this at home Let me know in the comments below! Hit the like button! Send me a message! Share with your friends! And see you next time! Byeee! 🙂
