Mega panda fail – Tian Tian takes a tumble

Mega panda fail – Tian Tian takes a tumble

It was roly poly time at Edinburgh zoo as
giant panda Tian tian got playful in her pen. The female bear had a delightful time playing
with the latest enrichment toy given to her by her keepers. After rolling off her podium, she took a moment
to chill out – and take it all in – with a smile on her face. Tian Tian is currently on Pandawatch at Edinburgh
Zoo. She’s thought to be pregnant after scientists
artificially inseminated her in April. Having previously lost her cub, it’s hoped
that this time the zoo will be lucky in welcoming a new addition in August or September this
year. The giant panda has been taken off show during
her gestation period as female pandas have a heightened sensitivity to noise during pregnancy. Tian Tian arrived at the Scottish facility
from a panda breeding centre near the city of Chengdu in December 2011. She was joined by her partner Yang Guang – who
lives in a separate enclosure, as is normal for the animals. Edinburgh Zoo is home to the UK’s only giant
pandas – and the first adult giant pandas ever to have come out of China.
