Golf Scramble Video 2019

I had always wanted to go to college,
it never seemed feasible for me. And I literally just found myself in the parking lot
at Pierce College Puyallup sort of standing outside of the the administration building and
thinking to myself: ‘Well, what do I have to lose?” I will be graduating in the spring of 2019.
I’m studying the social sciences and hope to move on to U.W. for the Law, Societies & Justice
program. I had a full-ride scholarship to Texas State
University and I was there the first year, and it didn’t work out for me. I’m studying Early Childhood Education. I’m wanting to be a Preschool Teacher. Being a military spouse and a mother and a full-time
student, it was challenging coming up with the funds to even pay for childcare, so it really helped me
pay for my tuition and childcare. So I actually applied for a foundation scholarship
my very first quarter at Pierce. When I got that first reward I think it was $750
a quarter. And it was perfect, it was the amount I needed to sort of bring it all together to make
sure I buy my textbooks on time and I got to ease back some of my work and things like that
because every little bit helps. You’re giving more than support. You’re giving opportunities,
you’re giving freedom to pursue them. You’re giving the foundation for someone to build themselves for a better
future, and be able to better serve the people around them. Without this scholarship, I wouldn’t be able to be
a full-time student, an athlete, a mother, and a wife. I would be working trade-jobs, struggling financially. Pierce College has a lot of hungry students that are driven
towards making their lives and their communities a better place. And by investing in these students, these
passionate individuals, we’re investing in a better future for our community, and for our state, and
for our nation. It is more than just helping somebody through school, it is believing in somebody
and their drive to make everything better around them everywhere they go. I don’t know that I can adequately enumerate all of
the ways which the Pierce College Foundation Scholariship money that I recieved has helped me
and my family. The scholarship has given me the gift of time. I don’t have to worry about deciding between completing
a homework assignment, helping my son complete his, or scrambling to find more part-time work. Instead
I’m able to focus on my goals, to be more present with my family, and to immerse myself in my studies.
But anyone who has ever given to the Pierce College Foundation and has contributed to the type of support
that I’m receiving, please know that we as recipients are working hard to prove that the investment
made in us is worth it. My spur-of-the-moment decision to attend Pierce College
has resulted in a definitive transformation. My trajectory has been forever altered, it is aimed now at
a future rife with possibilities that could not have existed without this college experience. I hope that
someday I will be sitting where you are now, a proud Pierce College alumni able to donate funds and
time in order to give back to a deserving student.
