Cruelty to Animals Resulting in Death

good evening I’m Stacey shot and I’m
Keith Kate thank you for joining us tonight Sarasota County deputies say a
woman killed her own dog because she did not want anyone else to own it
authorities say 28 year old Shelley Bezanson choked her dog diamond with its
own chain she is now being charged with a felony newsChannel 8 John Rogers this
joining us now live from Sarasota County he’s at the sheriff’s office you gonna
tell us a little bit more about this door it’s kind of a weird whittier John
where’d you go John there yeah if you give a reason as to why she did this it
certainly is a weird story Keith well apparently the excuse she gave was that
this dog was sick and old and that she would be evicted if she kept it any
longer however authorities are very skeptical of those claims they say the
dog was perfectly healthy and also that she was given numerous options of places
to take this animal sadly though she wanted to take matters into her own
hands on November 14th a Sarasota County
deputy was set to a home on base Avenue in Venice according to an anonymous tip
28 year-old Shelly Bezanson was there at her mother’s house and she was about to
bury her dog dymond a dog that she had killed herself and I was prolonged it
was painful it was torturous and it was a horrible horrible death for this poor
dog to die the sheriff’s office says bezanson choked the seven year old pit
bull with its own change she clearly knew what she did was wrong she turned
up the music very loudly as she was killing the dog because she didn’t want
neighbors to hear it she told deputies that she faced eviction for keeping
dymond but officials are skeptical of that because she had other animals in
her home too officials say bezanson tried to have the dog euthanized but a
veterinarian refused saying the dog was healthy in doing so would be unethical
according to the affidavit Bezanson told an investigator quote I promised dymond
we would be together until the end and this was the end Diamond story actually
started here back in october two thousand twelve workers at the Humane
Society of Sarasota County found the dog abandoned and tied to a pole diamond was
loved by all of our staff here executive director Christi doorman said Bezanson
went through an extensive vetting process and she was able to adopt
diamond in January 2013 doorman says Bezanson never reached out to them about
returning the animal unfortunately she didn’t contact us for whatever reason
and otherwise this could have been a very different story the Humane Society
of sarasota county would have been able to take the animal back or find a new
home officials say this crime is absolutely tragic and easily preventable
that was John Rogers reporting the bezanson claimed that she had a
breakdown at the time it didn’t realize that her actions were wrong regardless
on Fridays she was arrested and charged with animal cruelty a felony and that
she was booked on $25,000 bond
