Banner Island Ballpark. That is the site of the very first ever WCC baseball tournament.
Rich Hill “It’s great to see us evolve as a conference and and have this tournament.” Nino Giarratano: “And the excitement really takes off for the conference and it leads to us getting two or three teams in the NCAA Regional.” Kris Bryant: “It’s awesome. You look around the NCAA and there’s a lot of conference tournaments out there and I’m looking forward to a great weekend and hopefully we can pull it out.” “This is awesome. This is what it’s about for all of us. Let’s have a good one.” “What a great experience for our players every year to fight for one of those four spots. I think it says a lot about the West Coast Conference and why it’s such a wonderful place to work and coach. I think with us having a say in what kind of format we play and how we play that format. As a coach it makes you feel like you’re really in the process and you get to be part of something special High fly ball into deep right field. Backing up on that one. And it is gone! And it’s a home run and a game winner. Amanda Blackwell, “What is going on with two men on in that situation?” Derek Atkinson, “I’m looking for a fastball in with two strikes and I got it and I don’t know it was at my head but I still got it I was able to get the job done.” Man talk about drama. Roxy Bernstein, “Bradley Zimmer the runner at second base. Conyers the one strike pitch. Blooped into right center field. Racing over AJ Robinson dives, makes the catch, ballgame! The San Diego Toreros are West Coast Conference champions. Troy Conyers, “It feels so good to go out there and have an appearance like that. It’s been a tough year for me, injury-wise. So when I got the opportunity, I knew that I needed to do something with it. Louie Lechich, “It means everything. This is what we set out to do at the beginning of the year every year and didn’t get out to a great start, but rallied at the end of the season and made it work. Kris Bryant, “I’m just so proud of this team. This has been the greatest year of my life. We’ve battled through so much ups and downs. We played through all of them. You know, we’ve got a long way to go and I think we can make a run out of this.
